About
Hi, I am Louise and I am the writer of teachingpuppies. I started the blog to help new puppy and dog owners solve problem behaviours and learn how to train their dogs using modern positive techniques. I have been working as a dog training instructor for nine years, whilst studying problem behaviour management. At the same time I was a part of a dog display team touring the North of England, putting on displays at large shows. This led to me working as a professional Guide Dog Trainer in the UK for a few years, until I decided to further my knowledge by studying at university, gaining my BSc in Animal Behaviour Science earlier this year, with a special interest in Dog Appeasing Pheromones.
Helping out in any spare time with dog charities by volunteer walking and training is a passion of mine and recently I fostered a dog for the RSPCA. She was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier who had suffered for two years in a shed before being brought in by an officer. She had dog aggression problems and had been in the centre for 18months, without being viewed. Thankfully, after 3 months in foster care she overcame these issues and now is happily living with a wonderful family and loving life.
I currently have two dogs; a Golden Retriever called Sophie and a Flatcoat Retriever called Chester, who are adorable and make me smile every day. I enjoy reading about, walking with and training dogs, so if you do too then sign up to my RSS feed or leave me a comment, I would love to hear from you.
